Division of Teacher Education
The Division of Teacher Education offers degrees in Elementary Education (K-6),
Elementary Education/Missions Emphasis, Secondary English Education (9-12),
Physical Education (K-12), Music Education
(K-12) and a two-year degree in
Early Childhood Education (2-5 year olds). Minors are available in History,
Science and Music.
Graduates are entitled to certification through the
American Association of Christian Schools and the
Association of Christian Schools International. Licensure with the
State of North Carolina is available by taking a few additional hours with High
Point University. These additional hours can be taken during the four calendar
years at Piedmont and will result in students gaining a second degree from
High Point University as well as the Piedmont degree. North Carolina
belongs to a group of forty states that have reciprocity in transferring
teaching licenses. Education majors take 35 hours of Bible, which entitles them
to a lifetime Bible Certificate with the Association
of Christian Schools International.
Meet the
Division Chair
Hello, my name is Mrs. Lynda
Seymour. It is a pleasure to Chair the Teacher Education Division because
I work with future teachers. I have a B.S. in Intermediate Education from
East Carolina University and a M.S. in School Administration from North
Carolina A&T University.
My first experience as
a teacher was in our family garage when at age five I taught classes for my
dolls, my unwilling sister, the family dog, and any neighbor children I could
coerce into listening. Since my formal training, I have taught
elementary, middle and high school classes in public, private and Christian
schools. For a year I taught English as a foreign language in a private
school in Puerto Rico. After serving as a Middle School principal, I came
to Piedmont to help train new teachers. It is so much fun to teach
college students and then observe them as they student teach. Of the
thirty-five years I have spent in the field of education, the last twelve years
spent at Piedmont have been the most rewarding.
My talented husband of
thirty-five years spent most of his career as a cost analyst engineer. He
is currently fulfilling a lifetime dream of building us a new home on some
property we bought several years ago. He is a gifted teacher but never
earned his income in a teaching position. We love to share teaching ideas
with one another.
Please contact me if
you have questions concerning any of our teacher education programs. Like
most teachers, I love to talk!
