Divsion of Music
The Music Division is equipped to prepare students biblically and musically for future music ministries in churches and schools. Three major and three minor programs are offered, and music instruction from beginning through advanced levels is available regardless of a student’s major. Each program offers a unique balance of biblical foundation, academic content, performance study, and practical
experience.
Meet the Division Chair
Welcome to PBC’s Division of Music. My name is Dr. Ron Smith and I serve as the Chair of the Division of Music. It is exciting to be part of PBC’s growing influence across our nation and the world.
For some background information on myself; I am a graduate of Marshall University with an A.B. in music education and received the M.M. in music education with permanent New York Teacher Licensure from Ithaca College. In 1992 I earned a D.M.A. in bass trombone performance from Louisiana State University. In addition I also have a North Carolina Teacher License. My trombone instructors have been some of the most prominent teachers/performers in the including two from the New York Philharmonic.
The Lord has allowed me many opportunities in music to perform as a recitalist, give research presentations, guest conduct band festivals, and lead church music workshops. My previous teaching experience before coming to Piedmont was at Pensacola Christian College where I served a number of years as the chair of the music department.
My wife, Alice, and I have three sons; two in seminary and one attending a Christian College. We also have a lovely daughter in law who is a nurse. My hobbies are playing golf, reading about the Civil War, trombone (of course), and watching Andy Griffith shows.
The Division of Music has a highly qualified faculty that thoroughly enjoys teaching and mentoring our students. We believe that music is a vital part of the ministry to churches, schools, and homes. It is our desire to prepare Christians who are musicians having a heart for ministry and excellence. Please feel free to contact us for any assistance whether a student, parent or teacher. Meet our Chorale
Chorale is the official choir of PBC. It is an auditioned choir comprised of students from various majors. The group sings on campus at many events, in churches/schools, and in community concerts. Repertoire includes hymn arrangements, anthems and standard choral literature. Chorale considers it a privilege to minister in churches and schools.
