Division of General Education
The General Education curriculum is an integral component of the academic
experience at Piedmont.
Students are equipped to think critically, logically,
and constructively, whether dealing with literary
texts or life experiences,
and to communicate effectively in speech and writing. General Education courses
support the student’s construction of an historical nexus for an appreciation
of all other disciplines, the development of keener aesthetic sensitivities,
and understanding of diverse cultures throughout the world.
Meet the Division Chair
Hi! My name is Dr. Rick Sprouse. It is both a pleasure and a privilege to chair the General Education Division of PBC and to teach both undergraduate and graduate classes. I have a B.A. degree in English from Tennessee Temple University, an M.A. degree in English from the University of Mississippi, and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
I have taught previously at five different schools. In addition to Mississippi and Tennessee as graduate teaching assistant, I have taught as instructor and assistant professor at Campbell University (Buies Creek, NC), North Georgia College, and Pensacola Christian College. At each of these schools, it has been my privilege to introduce students to the wonders of literature, to the beauties in works by Shakespeare, Chaucer, Milton, Wordsworth, or Melville, among others. I hope to do the same here at PBC and to aid my undergraduate and graduate students in their writing skills. Academic advising is also one of my top priorities. If you are one of my advisees or if you are interested in taking courses in literature or writing, please contact me at my office (D305) and we'll talk.
