Standing FirmA message from Dr. Petitt (September 18, 2009): View or Save in PDF From time to time people express an interest in exactly where Piedmont Baptist College and Graduate School stands today. I want you to know that we have not changed one iota from our doctrinal or philosophical foundations, and I’m delighted to reaffirm the following. - Piedmont is committed to its historic doctrinal statement which has not changed in any way during our sixty-three year history.
- Piedmont is committed to hiring only faculty who are in agreement with our historic doctrinal beliefs. In addition to agreement with our doctrinal statement, a thorough doctrinal hiring grid and strong divisional interviews continue to be in place to assure that new faculty members understand and teach the same Bible truths that Piedmont has always believed and taught.
- Piedmont rejects covenant theology and is committed to Biblical dispensationalism.
- Piedmont rejects several major tenets of reformed theology including limited atonement and continues to believe that Christ is the propitiation for the sins of the whole world so that whosoever believes in Him then receives everlasting life.
- Piedmont is committed to “preaching the Word” by equipping students with solid Bible exegesis and training preachers to be powerful, text-driven expositors.
- Piedmont remains dedicated to institutional excellence and accountability reflected in our overall accreditation by TRACS and the approval of our Teacher Education Programs through ACSI.
- Piedmont is committed to both academic excellence and practical ministry training. Our desire is to graduate servant-leaders who are solidly grounded in the Word of God and well trained in all areas of relevant ministry and professional skills.
- Piedmont reaffirmed its definition as a Bible college in 2009 by revising many programs, but keeping a Bible major in ALL four-year programs.
- Piedmont’s long term goal is to have an enrollment of 5,000 online and graduate students and 500 main campus students. We will attempt to accomplish that vision through dependence on God while strengthening all three of our schools.
- A strong main campus undergraduate school
- An innovative, cutting-edge online school
- A respected graduate school
- Piedmont is committed to discipling and mentoring students to be Godly in every sense of the word. We continue to maintain high Biblical standards across our campus and strictly enforce rules against immodesty, social dancing, drinking alcoholic beverages, gambling, ungodly entertainment, immorality, etc.
- Piedmont is committed to training Godly students to be actively involved in Christian Service. We continue to require all students to be faithful in local church attendance, active in local church ministry, and involved in local church based evangelism. Our desire is to train them and give them repeated opportunities to learn how to effectively reach the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Piedmont is committed to fostering an environment in which trustees, administrators, faculty, staff, and students model a Biblical paradigm for ministry growth, adaptability, and balanced Christian living in a rapidly changing society.
If you have any remaining questions concerning Piedmont’s stand, you are welcome to send them to my office at president@pbc.edu. I would love to hear from you. Because God Alone Matters, Charles W. Petitt, President
